Charles St Buildings Group
The Charles Street Buildings Group is a property investment and development group comprising Charles Street Buildings (Leicester) Limited and 9 wholly owned subsidiaries.
The Group’s headquarters are at Thurmaston, Leicester where it has been based since it commenced operations in the early 1950s. The Group has grown from a construction and development business initially created to build warehousing for Murphy Bros. Limited, a civil engineering business started by Hughie and Paddy Murphy in 1945. Today the Group continues to be owned and operated by the Murphy family with over 6,300,000 square feet of property which are let on commercial terms.

The Charles Street Buildings Group grew out of Murphy Bros. Limited, a civil engineering business created by Hughie and Paddy Murphy in the 1940s. As Murphy Bros. expanded Hughie and Paddy developed new premises for their company through property companies created for the purpose. By 1968, when Murphy Bros. was sold, the property companies were retained.

Charles Street Buildings (Leicester) Limited had been incorporated in 1961 and was named after an office block developed at Charles Street, Leicester in 1956. CSB has been based at Melton Road, Thurmaston, Leicester since 25 acres of land was developed for Murphy Bros. in 1954.
The Group is now led by Hugh P Murphy, son of Paddy and nephew of Hughie, and comprises CSB and its subsidiary companies which together own over 6,000,000 sq ft of investment property. The majority of CSB’s properties are in and around Leicester and are in the industrial and warehousing sector, although CSB holds a diverse portfolio with a broad geographical spread across all traditional sectors.
